I recently bought some new earphones, these are the Sennheiser CX300′s. I love a good Sennheiser product, I use both their headphones and earphones. I have had quite a few of them over the years.

As promised ages ago here is a follow up on the Soniclink S-Gold mains leads. If you have no idea what I am on about try checking out this post.

Over the past few years the market for power (mains) leads has grown due to the magazines pushing these very profitable accessories. The Soniclink S-Gold was one of first wave of cables that came on the market in around 1998 from what I remember. I got a single Soniclink cable back in 1999, around that time I tried it on my cd player and it made it sound quite dead from what I remember, I then tried it on my power amplifier which at the time was a reworked Quad 606 MK1. The difference this cable made to that amp was amazing, I carried on using it with Quad right up until I got rid of the Quad in 2001.

I bought my current Meridian active speakers at the end of 1999 but never really used them until 2002, I loved the sound of the Meridians until I was routing around in the cupboard in the bedroom and found the Soniclink cable. Now at that point I was thinking about selling it as I hadn’t seen or heard of Soniclink for a few years and one isn’t much use for me. The problem is that the Meridians need a mains cable each, so being mad I plugged it in to one of them. The result was amazing, one side of the sound was clearer and some how much more extended. I then tracked down another cable for the other speaker and thats when I found out my ear was a bit mashed and posted on here.

I can confirm that this is one seriously good cable, the soundstage is much much wider, the top is crisp clean and free from brightness and glare. They make everything sound much more together, the bottom end and lower mids are really really well integrated and the overall balance is much tighter. They have had the effect of what sounds like you have just cleaned your ears out, the noise floor just seems to have faded away and what is left is truly great sound.

It feels odd saying that lot as like I suggested most of these things don’t make a “Difference” they just change the sound in different ways, this is one of the only cables I have ever heard that really does make a difference and does all of this at a sane price. Sometimes you can find them at a good price, if you do see one it’s worth a listen.
