Here is a nice new version of my Phasecam widget. I started the widget back in Feb 2005 and finished it for the release of Mac OS 10.4. After that I wanted to add variable update time to the widget but as I was still learning the stuff it all got a tad messy. So here at last is version 0.3.2 rewritten complete with variable time and it also now doesn’t suck up loads of bandwidth and stuff. I think some of the locations might be broken so if anyone out there does have a go and finds them busted please let me know. If you have some cool webcam url’s let me know also.
Get it here Phasecam v0.3.2 (This is only for Mac OS 10.4.3 or greater)

Update: Now comes in Silver. I haven’t done an icon in years so not sure if it’s any good
I got fed up with the standard Mac OS X removable media icon on my USB stick so I have made a nice SanDisk Cruzer icon.
All the files are in there for both Mac and Windows. If there is some problem the png’s of the different sizes (16×16 to 512×512) are also in there. For Mac users it’s best to just copy the icon and paste it on the USB stick in the “Get Info” window. Sorry Windows users your on your own. For more info on the Cruzer see USB Flash Drive – Removing U3

Spotlight is the search system built into Mac OS 10.4 or higher, whenever you make a change to a file spotlight comes along and indexes the metadata of that file. This feature is great it means that you can find stuff really fast. Whenever you attach an external disk to the system Spotlight will index the drive also, this can be very annoying if say for example you have a separate partition with another copy of Mac OS X that you don’t won’t indexed, or it could be a partition containing your backups.
There is a configuration panel in System Preferences for things to exclude from the Spotlight search but drives don’t seem to stick. Under the hood of the OS there are some utils that can help here. one is called mdutil. mdutil which I suppose is named metadatautil really lets you turn Spotlight on/off and lets you delete the metadata store so that it could be rebuilt.
To deactivate Spotlight on a certain drive (in my case my firewire drive called “TinyDrive”) just enter the terminal and do the following.
sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/TinyDrive
You can get a list of drives on your system by listing to the Volumes directory.
ls -a /Volumes
If you want to reactivate Spotlight use the main command above but changing off to on
Hope this helps

Was just cleaning out some old desktop images and some crappy one I got and decided to start using the SuSE 10.2 desktop image. It’s pretty minimal and looks wicked. It’s under the GPL so no problems parsing it about.
This is the SuSE 10.1 Desktop Image which is also pretty cool too.
Enjoy.

Well my christmas count down it working great and like last year will give off different messages as time goes by. This years counter is fully automatic so it turns on and counts down gives off some cheer and then sometime in the new year it will turn off. Yeah I’m just lazy like that :)
I like christmas and I put my tree up today, I had the lights on and off it three times till it looked ok. I know some people say it’s early but I like to get that christmas vibe that people seem to miss as they get older. As I get older I find it harder to find thing that people can get me for christmas. I seem to go blank whenever people ask me what I want. Well from my counter I have a few days more to think of some cool bits :)
Well get your xmas vibe on:
- Put your tree and decorations up
- Get the xmas music on.
- Sit around with a Santa Clause hat on! (Even when sober)
- Eat some mice pies, and think of tasty food.
- Chill out and let it roll on.
What you got planned?
